Motor Neurone Disease Australia (MND Australia) is the Peak body of the State MND Associations and was formed in 1991 in response to the increasing number of people (and their families and carers) living with motor neurone disease (MND) in Australia. In 2004/5 MND Australia undertook a major strategic review to develop an even stronger vision and direction, designed to bring practical and consistent support to those in need all over this country, with relevant and appropriate international alliances.
The No Lifting Policy has been adopted in Australia to prevent back pain and injuries among nurses. The present study focuses on the intervention of the "No Lift System" (NLS). The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate the use of transfer equipment, number of injuries, pain/symptoms and absence from work among nurses after the intervention of the NLS (n=201), and compare to nurses at two control hospitals (n=256). A comprehensive questionnaire was used for data collection. The results show that at the hospital where the NLS had been introduced, the nurses used the purchased transfer equipment regularly. They had significantly fewer back injuries, less pain/symptoms and less absence from work due to musculoskeletal pain/symptoms compared with nurses at the control hospitals. The study showed strong evidence for supporting the implementation of the NLS. The positive results shown in the present study can probably be explained by the agreement between the management, the union and the nurses concerning the implementation of the NLS, as well as its comprehensive approach and participatory design.

Elder abuse includes physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation, neglect, and abandonment. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Elder Abuse is experienced by 1 out of every 10 seniors, ages 60 and older, who live at home. At Nursing Home Abuse Support we find this statistic unacceptable. Our goal is to increase elder abuse awareness, educating the public with factual and current information relating to elder abuse and neglect within the United States and throughout the world.

manual lifting of patients/residents is eliminated or minimised wherever possible and so far as
reasonably practicable. The ANMF Safe patient handling policy promotes the performance of
comprehensive assessment and the use of mechanical lifting aids and other equipment to
assist nursing staff in the moving, transferring, mobilisation and handling of
patients/clients, to ensure that minimal force or exertion of the body is experienced by nurses and carers when performing patient handling tasks whilst ensuring patient safety. Adaptive clothing assists in the prevention of injury and back pain alongside lifting aids.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic degenerative disease of the Central Nervous System and is the most common neurological disease that affects young adults. In MS sufferers the myelin, which encases the nerve fibres and assists nerve function, becomes inflamed and damaged causing plaques or lesions of inflammation and the myelin is lost from many areas of the Central Nervous System.
In contrast to a number of other charities, the Foundation is staffed solely by a team of volunteers who give their time and resources for free so that every dollar raised is placed into research.
